How I Think I Can Improve My Writing

Hi

Tuesday is the most intense day in my week just because I have class from 9am-6pm. It was stressful and chaotic at the same time. My friend and I have to run to get breakfast before (during) class to feed our hungry souls because FOOD IS LIFE. And we know the fact that we can't function with an empty stomach.

Anyway, as time passed by, I realized that writing is important. Any types and kinds of writing is important and I somehow managed to identified few ways to improve my writing. It may be a small step, but what is wrong with it? Its my way of improving myself. Different people have different ways of developing themselves and its a fact that everyone have to deal with.

First and foremost, I think I have to improve my vocab and this can be done by reading. I used to read a lot but overtime I read less. Reading is the most effective way for me to improve my writing. I don't know about you guys, but by reading, you can pour your thoughts and skill better in writing.

By reading, I am more familiar with different styles of writing wether it is formal or informal and sorts. I can also pick up few writing skills from different author through reading. Reading just solves most of my writing problems.

Out of 7 days a week, 24 hours a day and 60 minutes in an hour, I think I can write better at night around 10pm to 12am. And I prefer to write during weekends because my time is packed and stuffy on weekdays. And I need to get at least 5 hours of sleep at least to face the next day. Sleep is very essential for me.

I found a very useful site for a beginner like meh here to gear up and here to write better! :)

Week 2 Reflection

Hi

So in week 2, we were assigned into a group of 4 and were told to do an outline/mindmap on a topic that we can choose from a list that is posted on Spectrum by our lecturer. My group basically decided to choose a topic that is easy to elaborate. WHY PEOPLE EXERCISE.

Chelsea, Elim, Rini and I did some brainstorm-ing (with the help of Mr. Google) and we managed to come out with some points that are relevant. The activity is quite simple truthfully, but it creates the friendly vibe between us since Rini and I rarely works together with Elim and Chelsea.

The activity itself is very informative and helpful for me because I must forgotten how important it is to exercise regularly and what benefits it gives. By exercising, it helps us to sleep better at night, to stay healthy (very obvious), to live longer (with active hearts and blood pumping etc), to distress and improve memory (more oxygen).

Overall, the class was very relaxing and our lecturer gave us some space to basically pour our thoughts. Our lecturer post some how to's on Spectrum and it somehow help us to write better. I thinks that is what writing class is all about. Time and space.

p/s: If you're wondering what is Spectrum, it is a platform (kinda like a portal) for us to communicate with our lecturer (assignment, Q&A's etc). The UM students use it all the time and we practically live with it until we graduate.

The Kinds of Writing I Like to Do

Hi

I am not the biggest fan of writing. In fact, I find it very hard. Be it essays, fictional writing or etc, I tried my best to get out of it. But I do have to agree that writing is the best way (sort of) to release the stress.

If I was force to write, I prefer to write in short forms or phrases, so Twitter is my medium to express my feelings. However, I don't have a specific time to write. I'll just write depending on my mood on that particular day. I am not good with words so I feel like it is harder for me to relay my messages through writing.

But as time passed by, I do realized that through writing, (whether it is a blog post, Facebook post, or even twitter post) we can share our experiences, memories and also stories with other people. Through reading, we gain a lot of information and we can visualize or imagine certain situations. So, in my opinion, writing do play an important role in spreading information.

As a conclusion, I prefer writing in short sentences, informal and casual. But I do love reading. So writing may not be my personal preference, but it may be to others :)

First day of class; Reflection of me as a writer

It was my first day in Effective Writing class and we were asked to do reflection of ourselves as a writer. So here we go!

I've never been good with writing just because I think writing is much tougher than reading and speaking. But to be frank, I admire people who can write for hours and be persistent and determine with their work. It was amazing how someone can actually pour their thoughts in writing ad actually turn it into a story. I do realized that I have a big problem in writing because I feel insecure about the using the correct grammar and vocabulary in my piece. It makes my confident dropped and I refused to write.

I just don't think I am good with writing because there is so much challenge! But this semester, I have to take the Effective Writing class and  I'm quite scared at first but after entering the class and actually mixed around, I felt a lot better and believed that I will be able to polish my writing skill throughout this class. This issue gotta stop!

My polish-writing-skill mission starts today!
